Dear colleagues,

Thank you for your commitment to renewing our BC Liberal Party through your service on the Leadership Election Organizing Committee (LEOC). I’m grateful to have the involvement of people like yourselves as the party rebuilds and selects a new leader.

As a candidate for the leadership of the BC Liberal Party, I am focused on key challenges we are facing in the rebuilding of our party: promoting inclusive values and ensuring respectful conduct.

LEOC is responsible for setting the rules for this process and determining which candidates are eligible to stand for election to be our next leader; this includes a requirement that candidates “conduct themselves and their campaigns in a manner so as not to bring the Party into disrepute”.

British Columbians have the right to their own views, but the BC Liberal Party has a responsibility to ensure that it doesn't give a platform to individuals that are promoting intolerant perspectives that don't represent our party's inclusive values.

The BC Liberal Party must welcome everyone who believes in the values of our party, regardless of your age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability/ability, or other diverse characteristics. There is no room in our party for people who bully, disrespect, or treat others with anything less than the dignity we all deserve.

As stated in the BC Liberal Party’s election review report, in its review of inclusivity issues faced by the party, “these controversies and the way they were handled did material harm to the campaign effort”. We must be decisive and clear on our inclusive values to move forward and restore the trust of our supporters and all British Columbians.

I urge LEOC to seriously consider the applications of any additional candidates that come forward ahead of the November 30 cut-off and ensure that inclusive values are being promoted.

I welcome your support in ensuring inclusivity is a core value within our party through your committee’s decisions and the guidance given to campaigns.
